RESOURCE LIBRARY

start here,

Nervous system research evidence library: The evidence

A curated, verified collection of peer-reviewed research on nervous system regulation, relaxation and healthy aging.

The Center Within's Evidence Library brings together 70 peer-reviewed articles from PubMed-indexed journals on six modalities we use to help the nervous system move out of chronic stress and into a regulated, parasympathetic ("rest-and-digest") state: functional medicine, breathwork, acupuncture, massage therapy, sound therapy, and somatic therapy and bodywork. Our Neurofeedback section links to EEG Info's curated collection of peer-reviewed research on neurofeedback and EEG.

We built the library the way a research reviewer would. Every citation was checked against its PubMed record, every article was screened for retractions, and each study is graded on the strength of its evidence. We include studies with mixed or negative findings, because honest evidence builds trust.

WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON

the library keeps growing,

New areas of evidence

We are continuing to build out the library around the tools and questions shaping nervous-system-centered care.

OUR EVIDENCE STANDARDS

read carefully,

Grade honestly

A – Strong

Consistent findings across multiple meta-analyses or large, high-quality RCTs.

B – Moderate

At least one good RCT, or a meta-analysis with some limitations.

C – Emerging

Small RCTs, pilots, or cohort studies. Promising, but not settled.

D – Insufficient

Uncontrolled or observational studies, very low certainty, or conflicting results.

Each study entry also lists its outcome area: tension/stress, parasympathetic (autonomic markers such as heart rate variability), longevity marker (surrogates such as blood pressure, epigenetic age or cardiovascular function), or mechanisms. Very few studies measure lifespan directly, so longevity evidence in this library refers to surrogate markers unless stated otherwise.

why this recording,This is our own recording of the RESET sound bath, led by Kristi Littman. Kristi and Taylor's sound baths are held live — at our community events and inside Return to Center — because the experience is made in the room, with the people in it. This recording lets you hear one before you join us for one.
